How to become an Income Tax Officer in India full detail

To become an Income Tax Officer (ITO) in India, you need to follow a specific process and fulfill certain eligibility criteria. Here are the details:

Eligibility Criteria:

Citizenship: 

You must be a citizen of India.

Age limit: 

You must be between 21 to 32 years of age. However, there is age relaxation for certain categories such as SC/ST, OBC, ex-servicemen, etc.

Educational Qualification: 

You must have a bachelor's degree in any stream from a recognized university.

Process:

Clear the Civil Services Examination (CSE) conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). It is a three-stage examination comprising Preliminary, Mains, and Interview rounds.

After clearing the CSE, you will undergo training at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie for 15 weeks. This training is common for all civil services officers.

After completion of training, you will be allotted to the Income Tax Department based on your rank and preference.

After joining the department, you will undergo further training to become an Income Tax Officer.

Salary:
